PRP: Platelet-Rich Plasma
Dr. Prisk uses the Arthrex ACP platelet-rich plasma system. At a Price of $400, this is the lowest in Pittsburgh. (Unfortunately, insurances, other than workman's compensation, do not cover this service)
Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP is a concentration of your own platelets from a blood draw. Your platelets are a source of growth factors to heal wounds at the time of injury like a cut. When concentrated in the form of PRP, those growth factors can help to initiate the healing of damaged tissue like tendons, ligaments, and muscles, or reduce the damaging inflammatory environment of an arthritic joint.
The Arthrex ACP System is an FDA Cleared medical device.
PRP can be used for:
- Tennis Elbow or Golfer’s elbow (Chronic Lateral Epicondylitis)
- Knee, Shoulder, and Ankle Arthritis
- Rotator Cuff Impingement and Bursitis
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Muscle injuries
- Low-Grade Ligament injuries
Stem Cell Therapeutics
Your stem cells are cells in your body that can become almost any tissue to regenerate it in the time of injury. Your bone marrow is rich in these cells and other progenitor cells that can help regenerate tissues.
Your bone marrow can be concentrated from your hip bone (iliac crest) under local anesthetic. Some studies suggest that treatments with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) may be effective in healing chronically damaged tissues and improve symptoms of arthritis.
This procedure is $3000 and is scheduled in the office or the operating room as desired.
BMAC can be used for:
- Knee, Shoulder, and Foot and Ankle arthritis
- Chronic Tendon Problems
- Chronic Muscle or Ligament injuries
Disclaimer: Autologous BMAC is minimally manipulated concentration of your bone marrow aspirate. Bone marrow is a rich source of nucleated progenitor cells There is no culturing of your cells involved. There are more cells than just stem cells in these concentrates including blood cells, marrow precursors, and stromal cells. This is done via an FDA compliant process by Arthrex Angel System, research of its effectiveness is evolving. No donor or allogeneic tissues are used. “Stem cell” therapeutics is a general term used for the bone marrow aspirate concentrate and should not misconstrued as meaning an injection of isolated stem cells.
